Glendale Firefighters Participate in Read Across America Week
Glendale Firefighters read to 1,000 students
Several members of the Glendale Fire Department volunteer their time to read children’s books to the Kindergarten, 1st ,2nd and 3rd grade students of William C. Jack School, located at 6600 W. Missouri Avenue in Glendale, during the Read Across America week (March 1nd to March 5th). “When we take part in these types of events, the children’s reaction to us leaves quite an impression. It’s quite humbling. We are honored to volunteer our time to such a great event as Reading Across America. We thank William C. Jack school in Glendale for allowing us to take part, but also for doing such a great job with our future leaders,” said John Holland, Glendale Fire Captain and Local 493 VP. Members of the Glendale Fire Department read in 1 hour time blocks several times a day throughout the entire week. Each member read from a variety of children’s books including some of their personal favorites. In total, Glendale Fire read to over 1,000 children during the event.
