About Glendale's Green Park and Ride

Being green and saving some green just became a little easier for west Valley commuters  and Glendale residents when a Park and Ride facility opened in Glendale in 2008.

Commuters will save money, time and the environment at the 642-space Park and Ride, located at Glendale Avenue and Loop 101, which became the first Park and Ride for the city of Glendale.

Glendale, AZ - GreenThe facility includes parking canopies, passenger walkways, shelters at Glendale Avenue, a security building and a platform.

Various “green” engineering techniques were applied in this project, making it an example project for architects and engineers around the country. For example, a specialized concrete (pervious concrete) soaks up water like a sponge to promote faster drainage and reduce heat released into the atmosphere. This project has the largest use of pervious concrete in the western United States. Unique shade canopies are also featured for commuter comfort.

In addition, a natural waterfall feature was designed in the center, which will use rain water run-off.

The Glendale Park and Ride also serves as a carpool/vanpool site. The Federal Transit Administration provided funding for this project.
