Our Partnership with Luke Air Force Base
Mayor Elaine Scruggs

As the U.S. Air Force’s largest fighter wing and the only active duty F-16 training base in the world, Luke Air Force Base plays a critical role in protecting America’s freedom and security.  And with over 8,000 employees and a financial impact of nearly $2 billion annually, Luke Air Force Base is key to the state of Arizona’s economic viability.

Please show your support and appreciation for Luke AFB personnel and their families as you meet them in your neighborhoods, schools, faith communities, businesses, and all the places you go in your daily lives.

Please also visit this web site frequently to stay informed on the issues important to our being able to keep Luke Air Force Base performing its vital mission right here in Glendale, Arizona.

Through cooperation with the city of Glendale and other West Valley cities Luke has gone from having a reputation for encroachment problems to being a model of compatibility in land use decisions.
Rusty Mitchell, Director of Luke AFB Community Initiatives Team

The 56th Fighter Wing Community Initiatives Team (CIT) was established to address the issue of urban encroachment surrounding Luke Air Force Base, and in areas across the state that are vital to its continuing mission. The CIT’s involvement with local municipalities has immensely improved the ability of surrounding communities to make land use and zoning decisions that are compatible with Luke Air Force Base’s mission and ultimately the base’s survival while at the same time improving the quality of life and ensuring the safety of area residents.
